Overview
Natuurpark Učka, established in 1999, spans over 16,700 hectares on the eastern side of the Istrian peninsula. Dominated by the 1,396-metre Mt. Vojak, the park offers awe-inspiring views of the Adriatic Sea and surrounding islands.
Biodiversity and Landscapes
The park features karst valleys, dense forests of beech and oak, fragrant Mediterranean scrub, and endemic plant species. Wildlife includes chamois, roe deer, wild boar, eagles and numerous butterfly species, making it a biodiversity hotspot.
Recreational Activities
Hiking enthusiasts can follow over 100 km of marked trails, including the famed Premužić Trail. Rock climbers tackle vertical limestone faces, while cyclists explore winding mountain roads. In spring, guided bird-watching tours and botanical walks reveal the park’s hidden gems.
Cultural and Historical Heritage
Traditional stone hamlets, ancient hilltop fortresses and World War I bunkers dot the landscape. Local olive groves and beekeeping cooperatives offer tastings of extra-virgin olive oil and floral honey, connecting visitors with Istrian agricultural traditions.
Visitor Information
Open year-round, the park has visitor centers in Poklon and Brgudac villages. Guided tours, educational workshops and children’s eco-programs are available by reservation. Accommodation ranges from mountain lodges to farm stays in nearby villages.
